Our Approach

We’re not your typical financial advisor. And we mean that.

When I started Plum Creek, I had already spent years trying to do things the way I was taught they should be done — the pressure, the pushiness, the “give me a referral or else” culture. That is not me. It nearly drove me out of this business entirely.

Then I reconnected with why I wanted to be a financial advisor in the first place. Why I loved helping people so much. Before I knew it, Plum Creek Wealth Advisors was born — built entirely around a different way of doing things.

Our focus is on you. Your goals, your challenges, your happiness. We listen and we help you develop solutions. We don’t “sell” you anything. We find what works for your situation and we present it as such. We’re laid-back, casual, and really good at what we do. Not many suits and ties around here.

“I talk to people all day long about what makes them happy, what their goals are, what challenges they have — and then I get to help them reach those goals. Each time I do, it’s like a little gift.”

No pressure. Ever.

We’ll never force you into anything you’re not comfortable with. We present your options, answer your questions, and let you decide on your own timeline.

Your happiness drives everything.

It’s not the big house or the fancy car — it’s the ice cream date with the grandkids, the family vacation, the moments that create memories. We build plans around what actually makes you happy.

We’re in it with you.

We hold your hand through every process if that’s what you need. We stay with you, revisit the plan, and adjust as life changes — because it always does.

How We Work

AI-enhanced. Human-led.

We use artificial intelligence as a tool to research, analyze, and sharpen our thinking. But AI doesn’t know your family, your goals, or what keeps you up at night. That’s still a conversation — and always will be.

What We Do

Three areas. One focus:
your financial wellbeing.

Whether you’re planning for retirement, navigating a major life change, or focused on building wealth for the years ahead — we’ve spent 27 years developing meaningful experience in each of these areas. Wherever you are in your journey, there’s a place for you here.

Core Specialty

Your retirement is the beginning of a new chapter — and the planning is actually fun. We find out what YOU want your retirement to look like, and then we build your plan around that vision. Already here? Just around the corner? Still years away? We’re ready when you are.

Life Transition

Survivor Planning

You may be worrying about that day arriving. For some of you, it already has. On top of the grief and sorrow, there’s a cloud of financial questions — investments, insurance, estate documents, how to pay the bills. You are not alone. We’re here to listen, here to help, and here to lift that weight off your shoulders.

  • Asset review & reorganization
  • Navigating survivor benefits & Social Security
  • Developing a new financial plan
  • Investment management & income planning
  • Beneficiary & estate coordination
Wealth Building

Growing What You Have

Whether retirement is years away or right around the corner, the decisions you make today have an enormous impact on what that chapter looks like. We work with clients at every stage of the wealth-building journey to develop smart, purposeful strategies built around their life — not a generic template.

  • Long-term investment strategy & portfolio management
  • Savings & wealth accumulation planning
  • Debt reduction strategy
  • Stock options, RSUs & equity compensation guidance
  • Early retirement planning
  • Insurance & risk review

Why It Matters

Credentials that
actually mean something.

Not all financial advisors are created equal. The CFP® and CPWA® certifications are two of the most rigorous in the industry — and they exist to protect you. Here’s what they mean for you as a client.

Since 1985

CFP® — Certified Financial Planner®

The CFP® certification is the standard of excellence in financial planning. To earn it, a professional must complete thousands of hours of financial planning education, pass a rigorous board examination, accumulate years of professional experience, and commit to ongoing ethics requirements. When you work with a CFP® professional, you know they’re held to the highest standard of competence and ethics in the industry — and that they’re required to act in your best interest.

Advanced Wealth Management

CPWA® — Certified Private Wealth Advisor®

The CPWA® certification is an advanced credential for advisors who work with high-net-worth clients. Administered by the Investments & Wealth Institute® in conjunction with the Yale School of Management, it requires significant professional experience and a qualifying credential or degree — making it one of the most demanding certifications in the industry to earn. It focuses on the complex financial, tax, estate, and investment needs of affluent families and individuals. Only a small percentage of financial advisors hold both the CFP® and CPWA® certifications.

They’re held to a higher standard.

Both certifications require advisors to act as fiduciaries — legally obligated to put your interests first, not their own.

They’re rare for a reason.

Fewer than 20% of financial advisors hold the CFP® certification. Fewer still have added the CPWA®. It takes years of commitment to earn both.

They never stop earning them.

Both certifications require ongoing education and ethics compliance to maintain. John’s credentials are active, current, and in good standing.

The Process

How we work together

No surprises. No jargon. Just a straightforward process built entirely around you and where you want to go.

01

A real conversation

We start simple — a call or a meeting, no strings attached. We listen to where you are, what you want, and what’s on your mind.

02

Getting the full picture

We take a thorough look at your finances — assets, income, goals, and concerns — so we understand exactly what we’re working with. We work primarily with Goldman Sachs Custody Solutions, but can also work with existing Schwab accounts — so if you’re already there, you don’t have to move a thing.

03

Building your plan

We develop a plan built around your vision. We walk through your options clearly, answer every question, and never rush you to a decision.

04

Staying the course together

Life changes — and so will your plan. We stay with you, check in regularly, and adjust your strategy as your life evolves.

About John

I’ve been doing this for 27 years, and I genuinely love it. I talk to people all day long about what makes them happy, what their goals are, what challenges they face — and then I get to help them get there. Some are in their 30s and 40s. Others are in their 50s, 60s, and 70s. I learn something from every single one of them. Each time I do, it’s like a little gift.

My hope is that the families I work with will learn as much from me as I do from them. We’ll all be better for it. That’s why I’m still here after 27 years, and why I’m not going anywhere.

John holds a B.A. in Finance from Mercyhurst University and completed the Wealth Management Theory & Practice program at the Yale School of Management. Outside the office, he lives in Olmsted Falls with his wife Maureen and their two children, Abbey and Ben. His interests include wristwatch repair and restoration, AI analysis and education, reading, golf, and cheering Abbey and Ben on at ballet and soccer.
