The Plum Life - Why This Blog?

Whoa! A new blog! Please, please, please...let me tell you a few things in our first ever blog post. First..I don't want to bore you every week with our posts, so I'll do my best to make them REALLY good. Second...I think we can provide value here. Third...I could be wrong! Fourth...I doubt it.

Let me start with the basics and then we'll only revisit these if someone asks the question.

Who are you?

I think this is best answered by linking back to the Founder's Message page on the Plum Creek Wealth Advisors site. But in the most basic of answers...I'm just a guy that fell into being a financial advisor, who later fell in love with helping people, and now finds significant life value in building relationships with people trying to figure it all out...simple.

Why are you blogging?

First, I love writing. I always express myself best when I write it down. Second, I think I can provide a lot of value to people going through some of the life changes we deal with at Plum Creek Wealth Advisors. We have A LOT of conversations in our office. And when I say "we" I typically mean, me and our clients, me and our staff, me and investment firms. But I always view this firm as a "WE" rather than an "I" because it's more than just me. I'm almost always struck by these conversations, especially with clients. I walk away with value, our clients walk away with value. By blogging here I hope to extend that value to all of our clients and to anyone else out there that might be reading this. The value that gets taken away from one meeting in our office should be able to extend to a bigger group. I hope that will be the case.

Please know that confidentiality will never be broken here. We take that responsibility very seriously and we"ll never share personal details about anyone's life, or their names.

What will you blog about?

A LOT of things. I think this blog is best used as a place to translate real life client questions into thoughts behind them, potential solutions to them, and how we feel about the underlying concerns. So, we will blog about retirement planning. survivor planning, divorce planning, budgeting, money issues, portfolio management, etc. We'll also blog about your questions. You can submit them on our Facebook page, email them to us and we'll get to as many as we can. We will also blog about whatever we feel like that week. It might be family related, it might be sports related, it might be current events. It really can be ANYTHING, but all of our posts will begin with value in mind. We won't post it unless we sincerely feel that what we're writing about that week will translate into value to YOU.

Why The Plum Life?

Really...it's the first title that popped into my head, and I think it works, mainly because of the meaning and that it ties back into the name of our firm. I've included the definition of plum below, pulled from a Google search. The definition that applies is number 4. The plum life should be a highly desirable life. It will mean something different to every person. That is the beauty of my career, it's never the same. It really does mean something different to every person. Solutions might be similar, but the goals, and the reasons for them, are different. I find the discussion of goals, of wishes, wants, and of life to be a highly desirable segment of my life's work.

plum

noun

1. an oval fleshy fruit that is purple, reddish, or yellow when ripe and contains a flattish pointed pit

2. the deciduous tree that bear's the plum

3. a reddish-purple color, "a plum blazer"

4. a highly desirable attainment, accomplishment, or acquisition, typically a job; "he landed a plum assistant producer's job"

How can I leave feedback?

The easiest way will be to email me at john.crane@plumcreekwealth.com, visit our Facebook page, or visit out Twitter page. We check them all daily and will be sure to respond when asked.

That's it for today. We'll be posting these every other Friday just before lunch. Hoping you find as much value in them as we'll be getting by writing our thoughts down. Have a nice weekend!

John
